Excerpts from Karl Pilkington’s diary

Woke up to the news that Tony Banks had died. There was a piece on the news about how everyone was shocked. Got me thinking about an invention: a watch that counted down your life. If it said you’ve got three days left, go to the doctors.

Told Suzanne [Karl's girlfriend] about invention. She said she wouldn’t buy one. But she said that about the iPod.

[...]

A fella on the plane was reading Coy Mag. It was a fishing magazine. I glanced over and noticed he was reading the Pond of the Month article. Don’t think they could make it into a weekly magazine.

[...]

There was a really fat bloke on the plane. He was playing on his PSP. While I waited to go to the toilet, I looked at what game he was playing. It was darts. He’s that fat and lazy he can’t face playing a more active game on a games console.

[...]

Sat next to an old fella. Old men’s ears and noses carry on growing as they get older. Suzanne noticed his fingers were fat too. Maybe they continue to grow. Suzanne didn’t laugh when I said that her arse had the same problem.

I don’t find Karl very funny without Ricky or Steve.

The same could be said about Ricky or Steve alone.
Their apeal lies in Karl, Ricky and Steve collective work.

I cant do anything else but laff when I read or hear either Ricky or Karl, there amazing how do you not find them funny alone? Steve however isnt the funniest guy but it keeps the podcast going.

i find karl just as funny alone as when the others, he talks utter nonsense but its so funny. as for ricky and steve i find them both superbly funny and steve does more than just keep it going, ricky however finds fun in slaughtering karl. nice work lads

I think Steve’s self-depreciating humour is great, as well as the mutual piss-taking between him and Ricky. Karl on the other hand, I love laughing at him but ultimately I hate him, he’s a pig-shit thick, rascist homophobe. Just because he says “I’m not having a go” before he makes some disgusting generalisation about a group of people based on absolutely nothing, doesn’t absolve him of guilt. I laugh at his mental inferiority, as that is no-ones’ fault but his own, but if I met him I’d probably kick his teeth in.

I downloaded all the podcasts and radio shows for free on principle, because no matter how funny I find something I’m not willing to give money to the stupid, and I’m sure Ricky and Steve are doing altright for cash.

Ash, I get what you’re saying but i think that because of Karls level of education and child-like mind i generally don’t think he talks about people in an offensive way even if he does say ‘I’m not having a go’ or ‘All I’m saying is…’

Karl is an utter legend and he is one of the greatest comedians around to date…Keep on coming Mr Dilkington! ;) x x x

I love Karl’s diary, and all it’d digressions and ramblings. What he talks about would be what I call “negative space” (which still has value) in graphic design, for example.

That is to say you take something with a coherent message and invert it. Then interesting things happen and stand out that you otherwise couldn’t have come up with.

Karl is great, and I hope he releases a best selling series of “self help” audiobooks as some kind of Paul McKenna spoof lol
