osirra.com, now brought to you in three senses

My friend Francis has come up with the idea of creating what I’m calling blogcasts, and what he’s calling Robocasts. Basically, it’s a podcast of your blog using automated speech software, delivered through an RSS feed; he’s using me as a guinea pig for the initiative. Here is the feed (the posts are not in the right order, for some reason – that’s me raising a bug, Francis), while an example mp3 file can be found here.

Please feel free to subscribe to the feed so that I can accompany you with my thoughts on your respective journeys to work. Happy listening!

With Braille hardware, this site is available through the sense of touch, as well as sight and sound. I now have to figure out how to deliver against the two remaining sense: taste and smell.

ok, so some explanation on my part.

    a) I chose you Dan as you have a pretty well suited blog in the sense that there’s a decent paragraph of text to be read.

    b) The punctuation is reasonable which helps the speech engine.

    c) Lastly, I know there’s tools to translate text to speech for blind and partially sighted folks. I hadn’t seen anything to turn an RSS feed into a podcast though so maybe there’s a use for this. Either way it’s a little bit of fun.

Your posts are out of order since your RSS 2.0 feed doesn’t include the “pubDate” field.

Add it in and they’ll be in the correct order.

I played around with the XML this morning, so the pubDate is now in there.

    Fixed, awaiting re-test.

My Dan, you are sounding effeminate these days. Is it something in the NY water?
