UK TV: can you beat it?

A programme was advertised on Bravo today with the following introduction:

Next, meet a man who downs pints, shots and alcopops like a crazy fool.

Not sure what the programme was, but it’s somewhat indicative of the state of British TV.

Meanwhile, while Tiger was busy winning the Open this afternoon, a close-up of his wife Elin, Peter Allis gave the following commentary:

There’s Mrs. Woods. In for a treat tonight, I bet.

Peter Allis did add the rider, “candlelight dinner and a glass or two of bubbly”. He obviously realised the gaff he had made!

    Is that William Hague?

I think it was deliberate – remember his sublime “And Faldo finishes with two 69s…lucky chap.”

I’d not heard the Faldo one, but that is in itself genius. I have no doubt that it was deliberate; just slightly taken aback. I always wonder if/when he’ll suffer the same fate as Big Ron…
