I’ve never thought about this before, but here’s the logic behind a drill bit that drills square holes.

Technically (I am a woodworker, like Cohen, after all) that’s not a drill bit. The thing doesn’t spin on a center point. I’ve never seen one but I believe it sort of rotates around off-center making it impossible to actually use. A dedicated mortiser or drill-press with mortising attachment is what you really want.
